According to Hale Vash, a Baloch political prisoner of conscience was sent on leave on Sunday, May 21, after nearly ten years in prison. On Wednesday, May 24, on the third day of leave, he suffered severe pain in his lower back and died the following day after being transferred to Imam Ali Hospital in Zahedan.
The identity of this Baloch political prisoner of conscience, "Zabihullah Rigi (Natouzhi), 29, son of Ahmad Ahl and resident of Firuzabad, Taftan County, has been confirmed by Halwash.
According to sources, "After nine years of indecision, Zabihullah was sentenced to ten years in prison about a year ago on charges of collaborating with armed groups opposed to the regime. He has been serving his sentence since November of last year. He was sent on a seven-day leave on Sunday, May 12. Three days after his leave, he suffered from severe abdominal pain and burning sensation at home. He was hospitalized at Imam Ali Hospital in Zahedan. He died yesterday on the fourth day of his hospitalization due to lack of a definitive diagnosis."
The sources added: "He had no underlying illness and was in good condition after being sent on leave. Suddenly, he suffered from severe abdominal pain at home and was immediately taken to the hospital by his family. However, without a clear answer from the hospital about his illness and the cause of his death, his relatives suspect that security agencies were involved in his death."
One of his relatives told the Hal Vash reporter: "Zabihullah was pressured by the security forces for nine years to accept membership and cooperation with Jaish al-Adl. He refused to accept and endured pressure and physical torture during his early arrest by the Zahedan Intelligence Department forces. During this time, he was in danger of being sentenced to death. Finally, about a year ago, he was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court. He was released in full in mid-June of this year, approximately two weeks after serving the entire sentence."
The source added: "The family is investigating the cause and suspicious death of the suspect. He was arrested at the age of 19 and was single. His mother was preparing for his marriage after his ten-year prison sentence was over and had purchased most of his wedding items."
