Threats and pressure on those around Molavi Mohammad Hossein Gargij, the dismissed Friday Imam of Azadshahr

According to Hale Vash, today, Sunday, January 20, 1403, in recent weeks and after the visit of Mawlavi "Mohammad Hossein Gargij", a prominent Sunni scholar and dismissed Friday Imam of Azadshahr, to Zahedan after more than two house arrests, some of the teachers of the Farooqiyya Galikesh Seminary and their guards have been summoned to the Golestan Provincial Intelligence Department. In addition to threats, these people have been pressured by the security forces to refrain from accompanying Mawlavi Gargij. They have been warned that if they continue to cooperate, they will face serious problems and a case will be filed.

According to current sources, "Abdulmalek Gargij", the eldest son of Molavi Gargij and the manager of his office, has also been summoned to the Gorgan court in recent weeks and interrogated. However, no details of this interrogation have been obtained so far.

On December 16, 1402, Molavi "Mohammad Hossein Gargij" was dismissed on the pretext of a religious speech after forty years as the Friday Imam of Azadshahr. This incident was accompanied by protests from the Sunni people of Golestan. After that, Molavi Gargij held Friday prayers and gave speeches in the Jamia Mosque of the city of Galikesh, where he lived, but faced many pressures and threats from the government, including house arrest and summons to the Special Court of Clergy. His eldest son, who was his office manager and media manager, was arrested on October 10, 1402, in order to prevent him from continuing his critical speeches against the Islamic Republic.

It is worth mentioning that his son, "Abdul Malik Gargij", was arrested by security forces on October 10, 1402, when he was accompanied by his father and a group of scholars and citizens of Galicia near this city without any explanation or charge. After 103 days, he was released on bail on February 24, 1403.

According to reports from current sources who had previously said: "All official pages affiliated with him, whose administrator was their son, Abdul Malik Gargij, were suspended by the Intelligence Department after his arrest, and it was announced that Molvi Gargij was not allowed to speak not only during Friday prayers but also during Eid ceremonies."

It is worth noting that his official pages have not been active since his son was arrested and detained by the Golestan Intelligence Department, and Molavi Gargij himself has also been removed from the pulpit and is unofficially under house arrest.

Baloch activists believe that these pressures and threats are being applied with the aim of isolating the area around Molavi Gargij and increasing the government's control over the Sunni seminaries and mosques of Golestan province.

Despite the change of government and the coming to power of the Pezizkian government, pressure on Sunnis in various provinces of Iran, including Sistan and Baluchestan, Golestan, and Kurdistan, continues. Human rights activists believe that these policies reflect the government's efforts to limit the influence of Sunni scholars and reduce their role in religious and social issues in Sunni-dominated areas.
