According to Hale Vash, today, Thursday, January 17, 1403, a group of prisoners in the open-detention ward of Zahedan Central Prison protested the performance of the ward's worker, Mr. Nik Farjam, and demanded that the authorities immediately address their problems.
According to current sources: "The assistant of the open voting section, Mr. Nikfarjam, fails to perform his administrative duties, including following up on prisoners' requests for pardons, bail, and other administrative matters. Prisoners who approach him to do their work are met with responses such as "I'm busy, come later, come tomorrow, come on Saturday," and these visits often remain without results. In such a way that prisoners feel that he is playing the role of a judge instead of an assistant."
One prisoner said: "I applied last week to request (...). He said go and come on Saturday. I went on Saturday, he said go and come tomorrow. This problem is not just for me; many prisoners complain about this situation. Many prisoners have argued with him because of these delays and inattention, but he is still indifferent. Sometimes he does not allow anyone to enter his room at all. He has a cup of tea in front of him and is just typing his attendance. Why should a prisoner who is applying for parole wait for months because of the incompetence of the worker? It is the prisoner's right to have his request reviewed at the appropriate time."
The sources added: “Prisoners who previously spent nights in the open-air section spent more than a year in unsanitary and unsuitable sheds. These sheds, known as “squatters,” had very poor heating, cooling, and hygiene conditions and lacked minimum accommodation standards. Many prisoners had complained about this situation. Fortunately, about a month ago, these sheds were abolished and prisoners are no longer required to stay in these inhumane conditions. However, other problems persist.”
